This group of paintings and drawings, created between 2003-2007 are spectacles of self-measurement. I use my own likeness and sometimes animals as interchangeable characters that play out a multiplicity of selves: hunter & trophy, hero & villain, predator & prey, male & female. Sickly sweet and super slick, each obsessive surface is comprised of ten to thirty layers of paint. Using a technique that suspends paint layers between varnish pours, I incorporate lavish decorative elements as the main underpinnings of composition as well as a device to convey bodily and psychological spaces. The slick surfaces and decorative ornamentation convey superficiality,providing a window into the theater of the mind where I have control over how I am cast.
